The fear of storms ….. I really need help with this !!!!!?
I'm 16 and I'm terrified of storms. When I was about 9 or less that was captured outside a storm and the lightning was very close and I was scared. Since then I've been terrified of storms. I will not leave the house if a storm is coming or I see one that is a bit narrow. When a storm comes I get very anxious and sometimes have an anxiety or panic attack. I'm embarrassed that I'm afraid of something little kids often be scary, I guess I'm a big coward. I have a phobia of storms? How do I stop my fear of storms? How can I calm myself down when a storm?
Sometimes the fear is not only healthy respect. I grew up in the Midwest with many storms and tornadoes. You are wise not to go out in a thunderstorm, or even imminent if one can at all avoid it. What might help is to be empowered with the knowledge of what to do in case of a storm, and not use the phone away from windows (especially open) not to use the shower, refuse collection, etc. However, if you know what to do and not do it will remain safe in the storm. Argue with yourself that you have been through many storms in your life? How many times have I been wounded or learn directly from people who have been injured in thunderstorms? Now that you know and have realized that realistically the chances of you getting hurt, provided you follow the instructions security are quite negative. Try to see one using security techniques mentioned above for as long as you can, then try to look more next time. I still have a healthy respect for what storms can do, just follow the safety precautions and sit and watch the magnificent spectacle of light once found so afraid. Oddly enough, once I was afraid of them, now that I live on the west coast and do not see thunderstorms, which actually miss to them. If it still bothers them, close the blinds or curtains do not have to see and can drown the thunder, putting his head phones and listen to music from a Portable MP3 or CD player. Calm during a storm by focusing on what you have to do to get stronger, and is completely safe, after excluding lightning and noise or appreciation for the natural beauty it has.
